The Best Club Racing you'll find anywhere!

RacerEvery winter Crescent Ski Council sponsors one of the finest amateur ski and snowboard racing programs in the Nation. Any member of a Crescent club can race for that club's race team. Each club team competes against other Crescent clubs from Tennessee, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. Twenty of our 24 clubs have race teams this year.

Races are conveniently held on six weekends at North Carolina and West Virginia slopes: Slalom races on Saturdays, Giant Slalom races on Sundays, two runs each day. Additional options are available (most must be booked in advance) for three-day weekends at Silver Creek and Canaan Valley.

  • Fridays at Silver Creek --Race clinic for only $10. Timed gates practice for $5. Ski school lessons for just $15.
  • Fridays at Canaan -- Crescent members and guests can take a free beginner lesson from the ski school. Canaan is the home of dual racing where racers compete on side-by-side courses (weather permitting).
Crescent Racing also sponsors two local training days throughout the season and a week-long race camp the first week of December in Steamboat, Colorado. Qualifying available at each race day, training day and camp.

NEW as of 2004!! Crescent Racing is now a NASTAR League Program. Crescent results (at all races except Sugar) will count toward NASTAR national rankings and invitations to regional and national NASTAR races. Crescent will have its own listing on the NASTAR web site. Several of our racers will be attending regional NASTAR Pacesetter qualifying races early in the season.

Crescent Racing has NO age limits or restrictions. You can race in as many or as few races as you like. Racing is as competitive as you choose to make it. You race against 9 others of similar ability. 20 ability levels (flights). There are always two courses, an easy one for beginners and a more challenging course for seasoned racers. We use a handicap scoring system. There is no age or sex discrimination. Little kids race in the same flights as (and frequently show up!) the adults.

A Crescent Waiver is mandatory for all racers competing in the Crescent Ski Council Race Series or   Developmental programs.  This form must be completed and submitted according to the guidelines set forth in the waiver.

Racers receive lift ticket and lodging discounts, and discounts at special equipment sales at local ski shops in October or November through your club's race team. This makes racing with Crescent a fun and affordable family outing. Just ask the Pendleys from Palmetto. Mom, dad and two kids, (one just five years old) all race with Crescent.

At the end of each race day, the top three racers in each flight receive prizes at the awards ceremony. There are door-prize style drawings for fabulous free ski trips and equipment donated by our sponsors.

At the end of the year, trophies go to the winning teams in each division, Northern and Southern. Trophies also go to the top three racers in each of the 20 flights at the Crescent Cup Finals held in March. The top male racer and the top female racer of the year win a special trophy and a free trip to Crescent's Steamboat Race Camp. Each club also honors its top point winners for the year.

If you want to become a new racer and find out how to qualify, how to sign up and how to register, call or email your club's race director.
